Inspiration

We really wanted to challenge ourselves to use languages and softwares previously unknown to us to create a website which helps you find the right resources to stay healthy. One of out teammates had some experience with typescript react native and next.js— and since all other teammates had never used these components before, It became a very interesting challenge to learn how to code in this language and make something out of it.

Food prep and health is a topic which means a lot to us: We have all started tracking our calories and macros since the beginning of the semester and have come to realise how tedious this task can be. With the 2 biggest options available are to either pay $60 for MyFitnessPal or spending 10 minutes after every meal on google sheets, we saw there was a need for better awareness of how to track calories and generally stay healthy.

What it does

The website contains 3 main options:

  • A calorie counter option, which redirects the user to our personally curated playlist of videos on how to eat healthy and track calories depending on your fitness goals.

  • A barcode scanner option, which informs the user about ways to more easily access all of the nutritional information of a product using barcode scanners.

  • A cost tracker option, which advises the user on how to best eat healthy on a budget

How we built it

Using React Typescript, next.js and vercel

Challenges we ran into

We could not implement an actual barcode scanner option built in to the website due to licensing restrictions, and learning typescript from scratch was definitely a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Having learnt a lot about how to create a website and work in a team, along with making our own logo and the design of the frontend (we have dark mode!).

What we learned

  • How to communicate as a group
  • Delegate roles
  • Typescript
