Inspiration

We felt that polarization was a significant yet detrimental factor in how people go about reading their news sources. By insulating themselves to one specific news source, people are not only developing a single-sided mindset, but are refusing to acknowledge the intricate nuance that arises from issues deep-seated in politics. Thus, we wanted to create a platform that integrated a wide variety of news sources so people can feel informed on their relevant issues.

What it does

FrontPage is a news aggregator that uses advanced NLP algorithms and a geolocation API to find relevant news sources to specific topics. It relies on collecting an abundant amount of data to personalize a user’s newsfeed in a way that is not only rewarding but promotes impartial and credible local and national news sources.

How we built it

We built sample designs for our mobile app and browser extension utilizing Figma, and explored relevant NLP methods to determine how to best construct our platform.
