Inspiration
We saw students, traders, and small businesses stuck with expensive mobile data, unreliable hotspots, or no access at all. The digital divide was leaving millions behind, so we set out to build uncapped, affordable internet where telcos won’t go.
What it does
FroNet delivers Starlink-grade speed at mobile-data prices using modular WiFi hardware, captive portals, and a franchise-led deployment model. Users get building-wide coverage, multiple payment options, and reliable uptime.
How we built it
We designed custom access points, built a captive portal for authentication and monetization, and integrated payment systems like mobile money and vouchers. We piloted in student hostels and markets to prove retention and revenue models.
Challenges we ran into
- Limited funding for hardware and backhaul
- Power constraints in rural and semi-urban sites
- Gaining user trust in low-income communities
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Multiple live deployments with paying users
- Partnerships with government and accelerators (LSETF, NIGCOMSAT, NSIA)
- First franchisee signed with a scalable rollout model
What we learned
Connectivity success requires tech, financing, and community engagement working together.
What's next for FroNet ISP Management
Scale across states, add ad-supported access, expand to public spaces, and eventually launch LEO satellites for full Africa-wide coverage.
