Inspiration
Local produce is the latest craze, and our app, Friends with Farms, will help connect users with nearby farms by searching for specific produce items and being matched with local agriculture who have those items available. We aim to not only support local agriculture, but also foster a strong sense of community, and cut down on emissions due to transportation of produce.
What it does
Friends with Farms searches a database of farms that have specific produce items available and allows the user to search for an item and be matched with those farms.
How we built it
We created a dataset of farms with their addresses and available produce items that we could use for the user to search through. We created our code in Java using BlueJ and designed our interface using Figma.
Challenges we ran into
We started with a much more complex and involved idea of the app we wanted to create, so narrowing down our scope was one of the big challenges we faced.
What's next for Friends with Farms
In the future, we aim to create a larger database of farms with their available produce items to have a more widespread impact, as well as implementing location-based APIs to match people with geographically close farms.
