Inspiration
An app that helped track doses of medication was mentioned during the intro ceremony. This inspired me to create something along those lines specifically for the elderly.
I eventually settled on the idea of creating an app that would allow elderly family members to track medication dosages, and allow other family members to modify the tracked dosages through Gmail.
What it does
The app, in its current state, is incomplete. You are able to log in using a google account, and add different medicines to be tracked manually, but that's it. As mentioned above the whole point of the app is to have it work through gmail, but I was only able to implement the back-end side of things. The app does not do anything with the email data once it has been scanned.
How I built it
I used unity to build the UI, and Google's API to implement the back-end Gmail functionality.
Challenges I ran into
Time was the main challenge here, trying to write an app was ambitious and I wasn't able to complete it. Other than that, there were some minor issues when it came to communicating with Gmail.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Successfully integrating Google's API, and using it somewhat creatively.
What I learned
I learned that Google has an incredibly flexible API for both use with Gmail and for performing web searches. I got experience integrating that into an app as well, though
What's next for Friendly Reminder
Development will most likely not continue.
