Inspiration
A lot of us had/are having hard time finding internships and wanted to make a tool specifically for Virginia Tech students to find them.
What it does
Finds internships based on you major, coursework, and what interests you have.
How we built it
Using a web scraper and Virginia Tech's catalog, we created an sqlite database of every major and its courses as well as keywords for topics learned in that course. Then, we created tools for a Groq AI agent, giving it access to our database as well as a job search API through Hirebase. The agent is then invoked and it's response parsed by our web app.
Challenges we ran into
We had never made a web scraper before, so retrieving the data from Virginia Tech's catalog and formatting it into a sqlite database was a new challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Finishing our project on time!
What we learned
Learned how to use AI Agents and Web Scrappers within a web development environment.
What's next for Friendly Internship Finder
Some UI/UX improvements could be done, including a better course selector, more filtering options, etc...
External libraries and frameworks used
For frontend we used HTML with Pico CSS.
For backend we used Flask, LangChain, Groq, and Hirebase.
For our database we used SQLite.
Our web scraper uses Playwright and LangChain.
