Hunger often goes unnoticed. The hungry learn to hide their symptoms, and people who have enough to eat are not aware of the extent of hunger in their communities. Those in poverty have expressed that worse than the financial instability is the lack of concern toward their needs, wants, and humanity. Friendly Foods provides community members a platform to offer and receive food from each other without shame, addressing a fundamental need while empowering neighbors to look out for one another.
Friendly Foods, which combines features of social media and online food ordering systems, lets users start by seeing nearby foods for share. From there, users can make their own posts or place requests for foods. Users indicate the available/desired serving amounts and available pick-up/delivery times. Cooks and requesters contact each other to complete the order. With Friendly Foods, neighbors bridge socio-economic differences through a shared love of sharing food.
