Inspiration
We thought true mental happiness comes from deep social connection with others, which will be created by both effective matching & collaborative activity, boosting the sense of community and accomplishment. Also, it has a significant social impact due to the growing social issues: social isolation & mental health.
What it does
FriendLink’s efficient filtering system matches users with individuals that have similar interests and common ground. Additionally, its collaborative activity features, such as “virtual communication space” and “academic peers”, will help users grow together.
How we built it
Our product has several features, such as the matching system, virtual space, academic collaboration room, and interactive website. We shared the workload based on our strength and interest. Also, we constantly tried to combine our different ideas based on the theme for creativity.
Challenges we ran into
Since we were programming several features, multiple issues kept happening simultaneously and we had to prioritize each problem and solve it step by step. Initially, we were highly ambitious of the project, but as development progressed, we realized some parts are unfeasible. Consequently, we readjusted our plans.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of creating the online platform combining multiple features — from filtering system and virtual communication space to academic activities — to help users connect and grow efficiently.
What we learned
We learned the importance of being flexible about our project based on our workload and time. This is because not everything goes as expected and our time is limited. Also, we learned the significance of looking into social issues from diverse perspectives so that we can make the most of our creativity to solve the problems. As for the technology side, we learned to work with backend for the first time, and how to collaborate on and organize a large quantity of files. Furthermore, we learned it is important not to hesitate at learning and trying something new.
What's next for FriendLink
The option to join public or private servers for virtual rooms. A private messaging feature to personally connect with those you are interested in.
