Inspiration
There is a whole generation of students entering college that have not experienced the social aspect of college. Our group found that while learning from home it was hard to have social interactions while maintaining social distancing rules and "stay at home" orders. Thinking back to our own first year of college, life would be extremely bleak if we did not meet new people and creating new friendships. We wanted to create a safe space where the students can still get that experience online. We wanted to create a platform that will encourage students to lead as well as participate. A place where they can make friends and compete against each other and, virtually, get out of the confines of our homes. Our goal is to develop a solution to help facilitate social interactions
What is Friendfy?
Friendfy allows users to participate and compete in events. An event will consist of a series of tasks that a user will strive to complete. After successful completion of all tasks, the user will earn ‘points’ or prizes for that event. We plan to use sponsorship to get our prices. In unprecedented times we want to also help our local business. We plan to find local companies to sponsor these events. A leaderboard - which is to be used to encourage friendly competition - will show how a user ranks against their friends.
Focus
Big focus: School/life balance, ie. free time activities so that you’re not always in school-related
Technologies Used
- We used Flask for the backend running on sqlite
- React, Semantic - UI for the frontend
- We used a REST API to feed in our data to the frontend using JSON format.
