FriendFinder
Inspiration
As college students from different backgrounds — international students, commuters, and students from the Caribbean — we all faced the same challenge: arriving in a new place without knowing anyone. That shared experience brought us together. Whether introverted or extroverted, we each understood how hard it can be to find real connections in a new environment. FriendFinder is a platform created by students, for students, to help everyone find their community and make meaningful friendships on campus.
What it does
FriendFinder connects college students who find it hard to make friends. The web app helps users:
- Join events and activities based on shared interests
- Chat with others in groups or one-on-one
- Build genuine, lasting friendships Example Metric To illustrate how we measure compatibility, we use a Friendship Score: Friendship Score=(Shared Interests+Event Participation)/Total Activities This helps suggest the most compatible friends or groups for each user. ## How we built it Our team brings diverse skills:
- Eric: Backend development and AI integration
- Laisha: Frontend development and user interface design
- Sam: Idea generation, testing, and support while learning to code
- Nile: Presentation creation and project documentation Together, we combined our strengths to bring FriendFinder from concept to a working prototype. ## Challenges we ran into "Turning our idea into a working web app took creativity and collaboration." Frontend development was tricky, but Laisha overcame challenges by experimenting with different tools. Nile faced challenges creating a polished presentation and explored various AI tools to find the best fit. Our team relied on problem-solving, creativity, and collaboration to tackle obstacles and keep moving forward. ## Accomplishments that we're proud of Successfully created a working prototype despite facing new challenges ## What we learned Learned new skills in AI, coding tools, and frontend development Demonstrated persistence, teamwork, and problem-solving to bring the project to life ## What's next for FRIENDFINDER We aim to make FriendFinder a real platform that helps future college students enjoy their first months on campus.
