Inspiration
We thought it would be cool originally that we could build an app for the Microsoft Band, seeing that we both had them. We started to think of different ways we could make the band more social and eventally came accross this idea.
What it does
Unfortunately we had difficutlies with version control and were completely new to all the APIs and tools that we were using so it doesn't actually do much and did not even accomplish a basic prototype. It was a lot of fun to build though, and well worth the challenge.
How we built it
We started by populating a basic android app, while running into constant issues along the way. Eventually we managed to make the azure server work, as well as the google maps API to display user current positions and some randomized positions around the user. Due to version control and device issues, we could merge the two branches and thus we now have a Google maps version, and a Azure verison.
Challenges we ran into
Version control was not working, initially the nescessary software was out of date or not loading properly, the Azure server was a huge learning curve, and we ended up not being able to properly implement any features using the Microsoft Band.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud of learning how to use Azure with Android phone, and we are also proud that we could make cool maps. This is a good start to a good project, and hopefully it can continue after the hackathon.
What we learned
Azure, Advanced android development feature, and the benefits of red bull.
What's next for Friend Tracker
We can finish it.
