Inspiration
Making friends isn't the easiest thing to do, right? Having to make that first conversation, saying that first 'Hello World!' isn't as black and white as we envision it to be. As a student, finding people to collaborate, to make friends is essential to having a good time and where do we spend a lot of our time? Classes!
Why not match people that have similar schedules and similar interests? Let's do just that...
What it does
We built a webapp where you can login/logout with credentials, then you create your profile and then are matched with the other people that use the app too. Then you can send message requests to people you've matched with, no strings attached. Send a message, meet people, talk to people, meetup, make lifelong friends.
How we built it
Backend -> Node.js
Design -> Figma
Frontend -> React
Algo's -> Python
Database -> MongoDB
Challenges we ran into
Backend integration with python was something we never done before. Especially random errors that took many many donuts to solve.
Making the frontend required a lot of athleticism in order to skip over the hurdles of figma not giving us the correct html/css configs.
Web scraping Visual Schedule Builder proved to be highly inefficient and inadequate for our purposes, as tools like Selenium, Puppeteer, and BeautifulSoup failed to effectively handle the complexities of scraping highly dynamic websites.
We wanted to implement sockets for chats but were not able to learn in the timeframe.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our design is immaculate and designed by the best Pinterest stalker. The backend is really satisfying and we got more a lot done in a small timeframe.
What we learned
If it takes too long just switch your approach.
Sockets are hard
Working with friends is cool
