Inspiration

Cooking at home is often the smarter choice compared to eating out. One universal issue we can all relate to however, is having to throw away old salad greens you swore you would eat. Approximately 30%-40% of total food waste in the U.S is on the consumer level. We want to incentivize people to be more mindful of the food they waste as well as allowing them to have a useful tool to manage their fridge, freezer, and pantry.

What it does

Fridgely allows users to keep track of ingredients with generated expiration dates and finding recipes that make the most with what they have. There are two main portions to the app, first being the inventory, second being the recipes posts. The inventory will allow users to add ingredients and generate an estimated expiration date based on the details. The discover page will contain recipes posted by other users where you can filter by ingredients, equipment, and time.

How we built it

We leveraged Next.js & Javascript to build the UI and frontend. Python & FastAPI was used to create our backend. For our database we incorporated Neon into the project.

Challenges we ran into

We ran into many merge conflicts and CSS proved to be very difficult to work around. Often we would have deliverables working only to be eclipsed by poor visuals.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are very proud of our recipe sharing aspect of the project that can encourage people to use ingredients and improvise with what they already have.
