Inspiration
Sad produce in the fridge means more food waste and hungry bellies. We wanted a way to track when food will go bad before it goes bad, to reduce food waste, save money, and have happy bellies.
What it does
You can manually input the type of food, quantity, and best before dates in a simple grocery list app so as to keep track of when your food will go bad. FridgeGo will notify you by email before the food goes bad.
How we built it
We used the MERN stack to build this application, with the initial idea of having it as a mobile application.
Challenges we ran into
We are all new to the MERN stack so there was the challenge of developing while learning on the go. There was some difficulty with finishing the development on the frontend so we were unable to connect it to the completed backend. We also ran into an issue with sending requests to the backend due to CORS.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Learning as we built, and being able to read data from the database. Also setting up MongoDB using Mongoose.
What we learned
Learned how to build React components, use Git for source control, and create a server using Mongoose.
What's next for
We plan on fully building the front-end of the application using React and perhaps later on using React Native to optimize it as a mobile app.
