Inspiration
We thought about our personal daily life challenges and asked what problems we could solve for ourselves to make our lives a little bit easier.
What it does
It recommends you a recipe based off the food you have leftover in your fridge.
How we built it
We used AWS Rekognition, Amazon API Gateway, AWS Lambda, and TheMealDB to recognize food and suggest recipes based off those ingredients.
Challenges we ran into
AWS Rekognition does not work that well with labeling food so most of the output is very skewed based on one or two ingredients in a fridge photo. We did not pay for any APIs so using the free API from TheMealDB only meant we could search for a limited amount of recipes making it hard to really get a good range.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We completed the whole project and used services we have never heard of and used an IDE that we were not familiar with to complete our very first hackathon project. We are glad to have made something.
What we learned
We learned how to use the AWS services and what they provide as we did not even know much about it before.
What's next for Fridge-Recipe-Generator
Maybe we will see if there is a better recognition service tailored to recognizing food since AWS Rekognition does not do that great of a job.
