Inspiration
We were inspired by the growing need to reduce food waste and make sustainability accessible to everyone — even beginners with no gardening experience. Many people throw away kitchen scraps without realizing they can regrow them into fresh produce. We wanted to make that process fun, educational, and easy to explore right from your phone.
What it does
Fridge Garden is a mobile app that lets users drag and select items from their fridge. It identifies which scraps are regrowable, then provides detailed instructions, tips, and tricks for replanting them. Each item is also rated as easy, medium, or hard to regrow, so users can start based on their comfort level and experience.
How we built it
We built Fridge Garden using React Native, focusing on a clean and intuitive drag-and-drop interface. We designed custom components to allow users to interact with a fridge-like layout, and used conditional rendering to display regrowable items with educational content. Our plant care tips were sourced from gardening blogs and sustainability guides, and formatted for clarity and ease of use.
