Inspiration
Everyday going home from school or work, we always stare at the fridge that is full of food but what can be cooked? Staring at it everyday confused, we never know what to cook or what is even in there. Causing us to buy more and more food that goes in the fridge, and maybe we give up and end up buying delivery, letting the food to be left in the fridge until everything expires. Wasting lots of time and money. Additionally, it makes us feel even more exhausted when we get home and spend time staring and trying to think of what we can create, squandering time that could be spent eating, relaxing, and resting. So we thought of a website that can help us organize recipes that we can make based on what they have in their fridge and we can just choose what we want to eat and start making it. Also, we figured out they might also want to make other foods but they won't know what they need to buy so we built a recipe book where they can search recipes and see what they need to buy next time they want to go to the supermarket.
What it does
The website, called Plateful, that we created can scan a picture of your fridge and see what you have and come up with recipes you can cook with the foods in your fridge. In addition, we allow you to search recipes on our website. Plateful allows the user to use the materials that are stored in the fridge and take the material for the recipes that the user wants to make and see what the user has to buy to make the recipe without buying extra material that won't be used. Users are also allowed to add materials that they want to buy.
How we built it
We split the work based on what each person can do the best on. Each person will try to complete their part of their work and combine it with the others. First we all discussed and we all decided on a website that helps solve the problem of not knowing what to cook based on what food we have in the fridge already. We wanted to be creative and decided to make it game themed with the pictures being pixel art. At the main page people can then choose between the fridge and recipe book based on what they want to do. Then, knowing what result we want it to be like we separate the work by seeing who is better at what parts of the website, two of the group members focus on the pixel arts and two members focus on the code to make everything come true.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge that we ran into at first when we came up with the outline was that we didn't know how to make our ideas come true. Also, we didn’t know how to separate the work so everyone felt like they contributed but then we let each member choose what they want to do the most and build up tasks from there.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of how we used teamwork to complete the work without making one person stressed over the amount of work they need to get done before the due date! We are proud of every part our team members did, using their time to help create this amazing website together. We are also proud of how each of us try to learn new things to help to make our outline to come in real life.
What we learned
We learned that with team work everything can come true even the ideas that we thought can't ever come true and be inside our website. With everyone contributing and trying to learn new things that go into the project we can get everything done and achieve any dream goals that we have. We also learned a lot more html, css, and API on the way of trying to figure out how the code should work!
What's next for Plateful
Something next that we can do for Plateful is to let the user create an account so all their information is stored into the database so they don't have to redo everything every single time when they open Plateful. Making Plateful more efficient to use, also we might want to add a part where we will ask the user if they buy the material and make the recipe if they did we will automatically delete the materials that is used from the fridge so the data of the fridge is always updated and the most recent data making it easier for the user to know what they can make even when they are not home. And maybe they can even go to the supermarket before going home to buy new material to make food that they want to eat tonight without buying extra supplies and food.
