About FreshMart
FreshMart was inspired by the struggles of small-scale vendors who lack access to digital tools, fair pricing, and modern marketplaces. Seeing how local fruit and vegetable sellers face daily challenges with price transparency, inventory tracking, and digital payments, we wanted to create a simple, intuitive solution that they could actually use.
What Inspired Us
The inspiration came from observing local vendors manually track their sales and rely on middlemen, which often leads to unfair pricing and profit losses. We wanted to bridge this gap with technology — but in a way that works for them, in their own language, and without complicated interfaces.
What We Learned
We learned how important user-centered design is when building for low-literacy users. We explored multilingual voice input, real-time dashboards, and digital payment systems, focusing on simplicity over complexity.
How We Built It
We used Firebase for backend, HTML/CSS/JS for the front end, and integrated speech-to-text APIs for voice commands. AI-powered translation ensures vendors can interact in their own language. We also built visual dashboards with graphs and icons to make earnings easy to understand.
Challenges We Faced
We faced multiple challenges including integrating speech recognition for multiple languages, handling Firebase errors, and designing an interface that is both professional and extremely simple. Debugging issues was time-consuming, but AI-assisted error resolution made it easier to move fast.
