Inspiration
We were inspired by the signs posted around our community talking about saving water, and how we are still in drought. We noticed that people weren't listening to these warnings.
What it does
It gives people an incentive for them to save more water.
How it would work (theoretically)
The app would have an API that is connected to the Round Rock Utility Department. The API would take the information from the utility department and put it in our database. Once the app determines that your household didn't use above 70 gallons per person, it will then add the points to your account. These points can be used to redeem gift cards and other prizes.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges when thinking about how we would get the information about each household's water usage. We also had trouble when trying to find accurate information about the average daily water usage per person.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud to address and find a solution to a problem in our area.
What we learned
We learned that people use way more water than is needed every day. We also learned that the information about how much water you are using comes from the water meter located somewhere in your yard.
What's next for Tapcut
One day Tapcut or something similar to it should become a real program around the world to help everyone save water.
