🌱 Inspiration India loses nearly 40% of its fruits and vegetables after harvest due to poor cold chain infrastructure and lack of farmer awareness. We wanted to build a solution that bridges this gap using data and technology — empowering farmers to make smarter decisions about storing or selling their produce.

💡 What it does FreshFlow is a smart advisory system that maps cold storage facilities, predicts spoilage risk using open datasets, and guides farmers with simple, actionable recommendations. It tells them whether to store their crops nearby or sell immediately — helping reduce wastage and improve income.

🛠️ How we built it We used Databricks as the core platform. • Delta Lake stores datasets on cold storage capacity and food loss. • Spark MLlib powers spoilage prediction models. • MLflow tracks and manages model versions. • A dashboard app provides a clean interface for farmers to input crop details and receive advisories.

🚧 Challenges we ran into • Finding reliable, granular cold storage data was tough. • Balancing model accuracy with simplicity for farmers. • Designing a UI that’s intuitive for users with limited tech exposure. • Ensuring the system works offline or in low-connectivity areas.
