Inspiration

As we brainstormed ideas, we reflected on the challenges we faced as freshmen—especially how hard it was to step outside our comfort zones and embrace new experiences. That’s why we created Fresh Start: a platform to support college students in personal growth and exploration.

What it does

Our website includes a customizable calendar feature where users can add their personal schedules, along with an button to automatically populate their calendar with events designed to encourage them to step outside their comfort zones and embrace new challenges.

How we built it

We used javascript and the react library to create the website. We used the mongodb database to grab information using next and express.

Challenges we ran into

None of us have much experience with full stack web development, but we worked together to accomplish as much as possible.

We created a fully functioning website.

Lots of new technology.

Expanding more features and launching to more users + integrating google calendar/apple.

I worked on implementing the calendar and fetching the data from the mongoldb database. This was my first time trying web development and it was a difficult but fun experience.

Samuel Zhao
I worked on the front-end and incorporating it together with the backend pipeline. Creating the front-end from scratch, starting from very little experience in node and react was a humbling experience, but it was a necessary step for me to improve as a coder.

Seojin Kim
We built a MERN stack, and I focused on the MEN parts - MongoDB, express, and NextJS. I integrated these three together in order to display it on the react frontend - allowing external events and calendars to be synced consistently.
