Inspiration
We've been to several local farmers’ markets, and they are very inconvenient, the nearest one is 20-30 minutes drive for us. We also realized that it's inconvenient to farmers, they have to bring lots of products to the market, and probably won’t be able to sell all of them, so they have to bring them back, which will damage the products and won't be able to ensure their freshness. There's also weather conditions, such as rainy, too hot (spoiling food), etc, which will make the events more inconvenient or canceled. Thus not a lot of people go to the farmers markets. So we had this idea of creating a platform to make it more convenient for both the farmers and consumers - the Fresh Batch website.
What it does
Our website is mainly focused on connecting farmers to local consumers directly, providing local and fresh products to improve consumers' life- quality and health. Farmers will be able to communicate with consumers on our platform to arrange pick-up or drop- offs, or buyers can directly purchase the products as well as shipping fee, then the farmers will ship their products by printing out labels that we'll provide.
How we built it
We used replit to write out code for the website. We referred to one of the templates on replit which is a commerce site. The languages we used include html, css, and javascript.
Challenges we ran into
Several challenges we ran into were links and images since we are not yet familiarized with html, css and javascript. For example, sometimes the images will not show or the buttons on the website will lead to a wrong place. We overcame the challenges through continuing debugging, changing the code; sometimes are silly typos, and sometimes we had to ask the internet for help. Through these challenges we learned a lot about the html, css and js languages and improved our coding skills.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Some accomplishments that we are proud of are the elements on our website, including the sliding gallery of products and prompting email input, etc. And most of all, we are proud of ourselves that we made an amazing website, and we hope our idea will benefit people.
What we learned
We learned a lot from completing this project and creating a website. We not only learned how to build a website, how to program in html, css and js, we also improved team- working, collaboration and communication skills while we completed the website as a team. In general, we gained a lot from this project and improved our hard and soft skills.
What's next for Untitled
Our future plans may be creating an APP for our platform so people will be able to access it more easily. We would also create a business plan, including opportunities, revenue model, SWOT analysis, competitor analysis, etc., to set an expectation for Fresh Batch as well as analyzing the business model and surviving rate of Fresh Batch in the business field.
