Frenzie
Inspiration
Especially during COVID times its hard making new friends. You don't get to go places and meet new people. In addition to that, since I am going to high school next year a lot of my friends are going to different schools, so it's time to make new friends. And being an introvert makes it 10 times harder. But my app, Frenzie, fixes that.
What it does
Frenzie is an app where you can post a profile of yourself with a profile picture and other images/data. People can view these profiles publicly and search among these profiles for common interests, specific people, and key words in descriptions. Upon finding someone they might think is a good fit for them they can text them right in the app. This removes the hassle of random contacts in your phone and keeps all of your conversations in one places.
How we built it
I built it using Firebase and Flutter. More specifically in Firebase, Firestore and Cloud Storage (to store images).
Challenges we ran into
I ran into a huge block in the middle of the night with some problems with Futures, and async functions. I eventually looked at the problem at a different angle and found an entire solution that didn't require any of that.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am super proud of that fact that I was able to get a good looking, running app in less than 24 hours. This was super insightful and learned a lot of new things.
What we learned
For the first time I learned how to choose images from a phone and upload it using Flutter and Cloud Storage. I also learned how to create a texting/chatting platform in an app.
What's next for Frenzie
Frenzie has a super bright future, with so many other things to implement. For example we could create a machine learning model that could have training data of people that are good friends and suggest better friends for people. We could create friend groups where instead of 1:1 chats it would be a whole group. There could be friend group event managing, as in if it's someone's birthday they could create an event and add it to a calendar for everyone in a friend group. It could help you meet new people and organize groups.
