Who we are

We are a group of aspiring CS students trying to gain more experience with development.

Inspiration

Ever had the struggle of finding someone to simply be friends with? No matter how much effort you put into chatting and hanging out, sometimes you just can't connect with people the way you want! With FrenFinder, all your worries are gone as you can now meet and chat with new people anonymously.

What it does

We find friends by anonymously matching with other people to talk to and depending on how close the matches are, people can reveal more about themselves.

How we built it

We used React Native for the frontend, along with Twilio API and CockroachDB for the backend.

Challenges we ran into

The front end could not be connected to the back end given the available time. Furthermore, the app's interface was difficult to implement partially due to inexperience.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Learning! Most of us were inexperienced with frontend and backend and were able to gain a new perspective on our respective roles.

What we learned

Teamwork and time efficiency plays a large role in developing a project. As a new team doing a beginner project, we could not get all of our original ideas implemented.

What's next

For FrenFinder next time, we will connect the front end to the back end. We will also add the functionality to generate icebreakers using a chat bot. We'd also like to make it anonymous in the beginning then slowly reveal information as you get to know the person.
