Over 350,000 independent owner-operators power the North American supply chain, yet they face aggressive, systemic financial exploitation from freight brokers. Standard rate confirmations routinely bury predatory clauses: $350 deductions for minor tracking glitches, $1,200 fines for paperwork delays, and arbitrary zero-dollar detention caps. Worse, when drivers rightfully demand pay for long dock delays, predatory intermediaries weaponize retaliatory Carrier411 "Freightguard" reports that blacklist carriers from 90% of US freight brokerages.

Watching carriers absorb thousands in clawbacks while navigating exhausting 14-hour duty cycles led directly to the creation of FreightArmor OS—turning the commercial in-cab tablet into an autonomous legal shield.

What It Does

FreightArmor OS operates as a high-contrast, highway-tuned digital cockpit with five specialized defense shields:

  • Rate-Con Trap Hunter (Google Gemini 2.5 Flash): Scans complex broker contracts in sub-seconds, calculates an instant Contract Hazard Score (0–100), strikes out unlawful terms under 49 U.S.C. § 13710, and generates an enforceable 1-Click Fair Counter-Addendum.
  • Dock Stopwatch & Detention Enforcer (Web Geolocation API): Hardware-free telematics using native browser GPS. Locks tamper-evident arrival coordinates within 4 meters, counts down the 2-hour grace period, and automatically bills unpaid detention at $75.00/hour under 49 CFR § 395.
  • Chameleon Broker Scam Radar: Cross-references broker credentials against FMCSA SAFER, BMC-84 surety bond databases, and WHOIS records to identify double-brokering rings, cancelled bonds, and virtual mailbox fronts.
  • FMCSA Coercion Shield: Analyzes coercive dispatch communications and issues formal statutory warnings under 49 CFR § 390.6 carrying up to $16,000 in broker civil liabilities.
  • Carrier411 Retaliation Defense & Court Dossier: Neutralizes blackmail with instant Tortious Interference Cease & Desist notices and bundles GPS ingress logs, signed BOLs, and communication audit trails into an unassailable trial-ready evidence dossier.

How We Built It

  • Frontend & Cockpit UX: Next.js 15 App Router, React 19, and Tailwind CSS structured around an ultra-dark highway theme (#060911) with high-contrast telemetry accents and tactile, glove-friendly touch targets.
  • AI Intelligence: Google Gemini 2.5 Flash integrated via secure Next.js edge API routes (/api/audit) using structured transportation law prompt schemas.
  • Telematics: Native Web Geolocation API for zero-cost, tamper-evident arrival timestamping without proprietary ELD hardware.
  • Hosting & CI/CD: GitHub paired with production deployment on the Vercel Edge Network.

Challenges We Overcame

  • Balancing Legal Rigor with Cab Usability: Translating dense federal regulations (Carmack Amendment, 49 CFR Parts 387, 390, 395) into glanceable, high-contrast metric cards that drivers can operate safely from a vibrating cab.
  • Hardware-Free GPS Ingress: Utilizing native browser Geolocation APIs with high-accuracy corridor fallbacks to ensure proof of arrival is always locked without requiring costly third-party ELDs.

Accomplishments That We're Proud Of

  • Sub-second contract risk parsing powered by Google Gemini 2.5 Flash.
  • A complete, functioning suite of statutory documents strictly aligned with federal transportation law.
  • Zero build errors, fully responsive, and deployed live to production.

What's Next for FreightArmor OS

  • Direct vehicle diagnostics integration via open-source OBD-II adapters.
  • Automated submission directly to the FMCSA National Consumer Complaint Database (NCCDB).
  • Automated cab-dispatched certified mail generation for formal BMC-84 bond payouts. ## What we learned
