Inspiration
Based on current transportation logistic situation in India, we tried to find a way that can optimize the number of to and fro journey of trucks that carry loads from one place to another and also would result in lowering fuel costs as well carbon emissions to some extent.
What it does
The main issue with the transportation and logistics in India was that there is no proper system that is followed by many local transportation companies. So, as part of current system, many local logistics companies just concentrate on whether they received orders and have been full filled or not. In course of this action, they missed a point on making there process more economic. Suppose say a truck that is assigned to transport goods from one place to another place and the truck just returns back. This is our main focus area, to make end users know about the availability of the truck that's on its return journey. Here we provided a user interface to the end users to get subscribed for one of the truck on its return journey and load it based on trucks capacity. The users would be charged for lesser price as they are using the services that are not on priority based, but based on availability. Based on distance and weight, the end users would be charged, much for a lesser price than the actual price.
How we built it
We have a frontend built using ReactJS, MySQL database for storing truck journey details as well as Google map API for finding the distance between two transition locations of the truck. The API would help to track the truck and provide an opportunity to the user to book way ahead of truck reaching the destination. There would multiple stops between start and end locations on return journey, which would help users to transport their goods based on the users preferences.
Challenges we ran into
Currently we obligated the system to have two stops between start and end journey of the truck, but we need to figure out a solution to meet optimize the system along with achieving user satisfaction. Need to re think about how to solve if the truck faced any mechanical or any other issues due to which there would be delay in transportation process and this would affect the continuous chain of prebooked transportation. Coming to technicality, we are facing challenges to track the truck using google api. Trying to work on them.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our work involved in optimization of roundabout transportation with no load on its return journey to some extent by providing a way for end users to spend less and help the logistic companies save fuel. This would be a major scope if implemented in the local towns in cities in India by making using technology at its best.
What we learned
We learned about the importance of brainstorming and how it would it help in revising our own ideas. Also, we came to learn the usage of Mapping API integration and its workflow.
What's next for Freight management
An extension to it would be making use of AI/ML concepts to it in order have a more optimized process along with better recommendations to the user as per price change. Also a data visualization platform that would help companies keep a track of their profits as well as a source to improve their business strategies.
