Inspiration
We were inspired by the need for developers and designers to quickly find, reuse, and customize UI components without digging through complex libraries or bloated frameworks. We wanted something elegant, fast, and truly free — a tool that simplifies the workflow and encourages visual consistency across projects.
What it does
FreeUI is a beautiful and responsive gallery of modern, production-ready UI components built with Tailwind CSS and React. Users can search, filter by category, preview, and instantly copy the code. With seamless theming and color customization, it empowers developers to adapt components effortlessly.
How we built it
We used React with Vite for fast development and integrated Tailwind CSS for utility-first styling. For animations and UI interactions, we used Framer Motion and Lucide Icons. We also leveraged Bolt.new to rapidly prototype the app using context-aware code generation and streamlined components. Finally, we deployed the project with Netlify.
Challenges we ran into
Some UI elements like dropdowns, scroll behavior, and theming posed integration challenges across dark/light modes. Ensuring responsive design while maintaining clarity and visual polish was also key.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of building a fully functional, polished UI system with live previews, search, theming, and elegant transitions — all in a short time, powered by Bolt.
What we learned
We learned how powerful tools like Bolt can accelerate UI development. We also deepened our experience with Tailwind, component-based design systems, and responsive UI patterns.
What's next for FreeUI
We plan to expand the component library, add user favorites, export-to-code features, and potentially allow real-time collaboration and custom presets. Stay tuned — FreeUI is just getting started.
