Inspiration

Our team wanted to create something that would be practical for students.... a random study location mixer, a chatbot to help you find useful homework resources, a career calculator that utilizes inputs of major and passions -- we settled upon FreeTimer.

What it does

FreeTimer is simple but effective. Hourly time blocks for studying and free time can be entered for each day. When these are set for the week, FreeTimer checks what day it is in real time and sets your timer. The user, keeping themselves in check, will start and stop the timer to make sure they stay on track with their desired time slots for each task.

How we built it

FreeTimer is built with Python. The Tkinter library forms the foundation for the user interface. We started by constructing the U.I. and then developed our own custom timer!

Challenges we ran into

Organization of the U.I. was the main challenge. We also had to experiment with different timer libraries to achieve what we wanted.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Not only are we proud of our U.I., but we believe this tool can actually be used by students to facilitate organized study habits.

What we learned

We expanded our knowledge of Tkinter and managed to build a timer with Python.

What's next for FreeTimer

We would like to expand upon this and create a student-life application! FreeTimer is one of the many ideas we had that would benefit students, and eventually a fully developed app with useful tools can be developed with FreeTimer being the first.
