Inspiration
Our inspiration came from Victor Gevers and his discovery in March of 2019 regarding the Chinese government reading and storing over 300 million Chinese private messages from WeChat, a semi-official messaging platform in China.
We believe that Freedom of Speech is important, but unfortunately, it's something that's unattainable for the people of China. Under the govern of the Communist party, the people of China have no right to disagree with government policies, their leader Xi JinPing, and many more. Human Rights Lawyers are arrested on a regular basis for speaking out, protests of any form are not allowed.
This led us to believe that, by using Blockchain technology, we can implement a decentralized messenger for P2P messaging, securing the information transmitted and the identity of the participants involved.
What it does
Using Blockchain technology, implement a decentralized messenger for P2P messaging, securing the identity and information of the messages transmitted and the participants involved.
There are 3 uses of our application, as shown in the video:
- Personal use - short messages regarding financial or private data with closed ones
- Professional use - lawyers and accountants can send/receive confidential data to and from clients
- Sensitive exchanges - as described in #inspiration
How we built it
Blockstack API
Challenges we ran into
Wanted to add a cloud server to our project, which is counterintuitive to what we want to build
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Successful implementation, started with 0 background in blockchain and Blockstack, beautiful UI, social impact
What we learned
A lot
