Inspiration

Investors and traders often struggle to filter through overwhelming amounts of information to find relevant and timely news. Our goal was to create an AI-powered app that curates personalized news feeds based on individual preferences and the latest market trends, providing clear insights into the stocks that matter most to each user. By providing it in the form of short form content, we want to provide users with clear, bite-sized insights into the stocks that matter most to them, delivering that instant gratification and dopamine rush that makes staying informed engaging and fun.

What it does

Freely is an AI-driven news aggregation platform designed to curate personalized stock market news feeds. By analyzing vast amounts of financial data, stock movements, and user interests, it delivers the most relevant articles, headlines, and updates. Users can easily track specific stocks, industries, or market sectors, getting real-time updates and insights in one convenient place. This ensures that they stay informed without having to sift through irrelevant or outdated information. Our information is presented in short form format, so user's can get their dopamine rush from doomscrolling while also learning!

How we built it

We built the frontend using React.js, with MongoDB as our database. We use Natural Language Processing through Google's Gemini API. The AI engine continuously scans various reliable financial sources, such as news websites, blogs, and financial reports, using web scraping and real-time data feeds. By applying sentiment analysis and relevance scoring, we are able to filter out noise and provide users with tailored content. We also implemented an easy-to-use user interface, ensuring a seamless experience for investors and traders.

Challenges we ran into

One of the challenges we ran into is finding reliable news feed data. We solved this through the use of RSS feeds, and webscraping tools to parse the XML.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're proud of our webscrape and AI engine delivering accurate and real-time results. It can curate an extremely well-made feed to the user that ensures relevance and timeliness.

What we learned

We deepened our understanding of real-time data processing, sentiment analysis, and AI-driven news curation.

What's next for Freely

Looking ahead, we plan to expand Freely’s capabilities by incorporating advanced predictive analytics to help users not only stay updated but also forecast market trends. We are also working on integrating more customizable features so users can personalize their news feeds even further. Additionally, we hope to expand our data sources to include a wider variety of financial media outlets and even social media sentiment analysis, to keep users even more informed.
