Inspiration
The gig economy is exploding, yet freelancers remain legally vulnerable. Many sign predatory contracts simply because they cannot afford a lawyer or don't understand complex legal jargon. I wanted to build a "Digital Shield"—a tool that levels the playing field and ensures no independent professional ever signs their rights away in the dark.
What it does
Freelance Guardian is an AI-powered legal risk scanner. Users can upload a digital contract or simply snap a photo of a physical paper.
High-Fidelity Analysis: It identifies "Red Flags" like unlimited revisions, hidden liability, and unfair payment terms.
Risk Index: It provides a clear 0-100 score to visualize danger instantly.
ELI5 Explanations: It translates "Legalese" into simple, relatable analogies (like LEGO houses!).
Negotiation Engine: It doesn't just find problems; it generates professional, firm counter-offers to help users negotiate fair terms.
How I built it
Built entirely on the MeDo platform for a seamless full-stack experience.
Brain: Multi-Model Orchestration: I utilized both Gemini 2.5 Flash and ERNIE to cross-verify the legal logic. This ensemble approach minimizes "AI Hallucinations" and ensures that the Red Flag detection is as accurate and reliable as possible.
Eyes: Integrated OCR Plugin 126 with a custom AI Vision fallback to handle blurry or low-light physical document photos.
Challenges I ran into
The "Analog to Digital" Gap: Ensuring OCR worked reliably on smartphone photos of physical paper required several iterations of prompt engineering and fallback logic.
Mobile-First Design: Fine-tuning the UI to ensure the powerful analysis remained readable and interactive on small screens—right down to the last pixel of the "Negotiate Now" button!
Race Conditions: Coordinating real-time AI streaming with complex UI modals to ensure users always see a populated, ready-to-use draft.
Accomplishments that I proud of
The "Guardian" Personality: Developing an AI that isn't just a scanner, but a blunt, honest protector that will literally tell you "Don't sign this!" if it's a bad deal.
Robustness: Testing the app against "empty" inputs and "white" (fair) contracts showed that the AI can truly distinguish between a trap and a fair partnership.
What I learned
Building "Freelance Guardian" taught us that AI's greatest strength isn't just processing data, but advocacy. I learned how to balance professional legal rigor with an accessible, empowering user experience that feels like having a lawyer in your pocket.
