Inspiration
“Whoever controls media, controls the mind”. Social media platforms are often marketed as a place for people to freely share their ideas and thoughts, but the dark truth is that your ideas and thoughts on a platform are often controlled by corporates running it. Algorithms of these platforms, promote content that benefits them and demote or censor any idea that opposes their schemes. It is high time that social media reclaim freedom of speech and become truly decentralized. Introducting Freeitter a new way to share your ideas and opinon on a decntralized network.
What it does
Freetter is a decentralized social media platform that is free of any central authority controlling the flow of content on the platform. This implies true freedom of speech to all freetter users.
How we built it
- We have used Solidity to make smart contracts by using ** Remix IDE** and deployed on Polygon Mumbai Testnet.
- Fontend is coded with Reactjs and deployed on Spheron.
- Moralis on backend, database and interacting with the smart contract and deploying images on IPFS.
- AWS S3 buckets to store static and default images. s
- Dynamic images by the users like freets and profile pictures are stored on the IPFS.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge we faced while developing this platform was adding images to our freets which we finally resolved using IPFS moralis. Moreover, static and default images on the platform are uploaded using AWS S3 buckets so that they can be easily modified by the website admin.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are incredibly proud of Freetters ability to allow users to Freet not only on the blockchain but in a database as a regular website as well. This was important as now people can communicate freely on the website but also save money while casually interacting with the platform.
What we learned
While developing the project we ran into multiple Blockchain based problems and in solving them we gathered a better understanding of blockchain. We also solved multiple of these problems by using tools we hadn't explored before like IPFS and spheron.
What's next for Freeitter
The ability of users to vote for favourite content on the platform and convert it into a true democracy is in the near future for freeitter. Moreover, reducing cost of a free on the blockchain will be our primary aim
