FreeGo

Inspiration

Its happened to all of us before - a head of lettuce left forgotten in the back of your fridge's produce drawer, one egg left alone to die in a desolate egg carton, a chicken breast languishing in its own rotten juices... If only there was a way to keep track of the food in your fridge and their expiration date!

What it does

FreeGo allows users to add foods and their expiration date to be tracked over time. In addition, FreeGo provides recipes based on the ingredients in the fridge.

How we built it

We used SvelteKit and the Spoonacular API.

Challenges we ran into

Originally, we wanted to use a LLM to generate recipes, however, after a lot of work it was decided that this approach was infeasible.

What we learned

The less experienced members on the team learned a lot about web development and had a fun time!

What's next for FreeGo

We would like to expand FreeGo to include a more social element, allowing users to create accounts and share fridges with others. Users would be able to comment on fridges shared with them.
