Inspiration behind FreeDAO

We required DAO services, that we called "FreeDAO" as a bespoke, internal DAO to initially manage the Freeos Economic DAO project and our own development team—along the way we realised the DAO tools could both be of great value to others, and that a network of DAOs can enhance the ecosystem and vision we're building towards.

Our new realisation centres on how this set of low-friction, truly democratic, non-plutocratic DAO tools can leverage talent and capital to build an ecosystem with strong network effects—especially if well-applied incentives grow the network towards strong economic foundations.

What is FreeDAO?

FreeDAO is a set of DAO-building tools that allow for true democracy—and allows teams to organise without having to think about issuing a token first, or at all.

It is able to use on-chain proof-of-personhood in the form of KYC to ensure one person = one vote. It also includes hooks that can lead to a future that is beyond KYC to achieve proof-of-personhood in other, less centralised ways.

Additionally, it allows for Web2 API access, and cross-chain support with other Layer 1 platforms—in a decentralised and permission less way, while also hosting the web interface on a decentralised blockchain platform—no centralised hosting required.

Finally, a number of governance features, such as Eden-inspired Fractal Democracy, and Sortition can be used by any DAO that wants to make their governance and leadership efficient, , robust, streamlined and accountable.

Our Progress

We have been starting with the open source, but unfinished, Daclify DAO tools on Antelope/EOSIO and have been re-architecting these contracts to work with the Antelope/EOSIO blockchain, Proton, and its KYC services as a first step, and putting in a permission system to create various custom roles.

We have a working version of the DAO smart contracts hosted on the Proton Testnet, with our frontend hosted on the Internet Computer blockchain.

Upcoming Challenges

  1. Onboarding DAOs that are keen to use our tools and provide feedback and feature requests—so our DAO tools can become useful for a wide range of groups, teams, businesses etc.
  2. Finishing our Dfinity Internet Computer "oracle-free" Web2 API access features.
  3. Subscription Fee using fiat and/or crypto payments—including the FREEOS token

Why This is a New and Important Idea

DAO tools for traditional, non-Web3 businesses and individuals provides an incentive to draw talent from the vast amounts that exist in traditional, and Web2 ecosystems, using the easy-to-access FreeDAO tools. These tools provide ways for talent to cooperate to generate further value in the ecosystem, heavily leveraging network effects.

Furthermore, the smart use of capital directed towards this talent further incentivises and empowers strong teams further—creating deeper value in the ecosystem by creating goods and services that we might not yet be able to imagine.

Additionally, the draw of obtaining a weekly income through the interconnected Freeos Economic DAO has been a proven way to attract tens of millions—some of which will be attracted to participate in DAOs, bringing their talent to the ecosystem—via the known phenomenon called "The 1% Rule".
