Problem
Material shortages (and small production capacities) affect protective equipment realisation. During this project a team answered to the question: can we make a design for visors, from cheap/ reusable materials, that can be easily multiplied ?
What it does
This design "embeds " a visor in the walls of a water bottle (5 litters). PET bottles are manufactured using blow moulding technology, which requires to have a mould with the shape of the bottle. The beverage bottlers have to design the mold like we did, in such way that the end product, the bottle, have the visor embedded. When bootle is empty the end user can simply cut the shape and use it.
How I built it
We brainstormed several options, then mechanical designers took real bottles, they did measurements and designed the visor; later they build the complete design (bottle+visor).
Challenges I ran into
An idea is worth nothing if is not implemented. We are not bottlers and we are not working in beverage industry, therefore we have zero leverages to push it trough. On the other hand it is that kind of idea that is feasible, is easy to implement and has a great impact.
Accomplishments that we are prod of
Is a simple, funny, useful, out of the box idea and is fully achievable. And the design (including two other designs) are free for the public, here: https://github.com/alinmotica/COVID19
What's next for "Free visor concept for mass distribution"
In final package will make some proposal how to push this idea in mass production.
