Inspiration

Time and time again do students wander aimlessly around campus hungry for better grade and more importantly free food. We wanted to provide a solution for these lost souls and alleviate some suffering during these hard times in school.

What it does

Users text in to a number, and our service replies with all the events around Columbia campus with food that day.

How we built it

We parsed the UEM database for food-related events, and we used twilio and ngrok to host a local server to send out these texts.

Challenges we ran into

Neither of us had done any web scraping and only had minor experience in twilio and ngrok, but we were able to overcome the odds and beat out the clock in this hackathon.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Now we know how to do some web scraping and use twilio and ngrok to varying degrees. We're also pretty excited at the number of free food opportunities we can check out around campus now.

What we learned

Anything is possible with a little bit of blood, sweat, and determination. Don't let your dreams be dreams.

What's next for Free Fu'd

Faster response times, user base expansion.
