World hunger has been a concern for decades. With abundant information about free food, free groceries, and food banks scattering online, people who are in need might not even know they exist and those donations just expired. This year, I decided to address the problem from the perspective of food distribution. Thus, I created the free food app, which aggregates and display information about free food around the users and push the notification to them when there is new location offering free food. As a progressive web app, it provides web version, along with ios, and android apps. Beginning with scraping google search and facebook marketplace about free food and free groceries(the web scraper I used one that is open source: https://github.com/LuanRT/google-this), I stored the relevant information into firebase firestore then display it in the frontend of my app while pushing the notification with firebase cloud messaging. We learned to appreciate what we have and what we can eat, also to cherish all the resources we can use around us. During the process of thinking the solution and making the app, my perspective shifted my me to consider the society.
