Inspiration
What motivated me to create this project for this hackathon is my recent interest in trying out AI tools. As a web developer (focused on the front end), I've been testing various tools that allow me to improve my work, learn more and faster, facilitate some tasks, and honestly, have a little fun, both inside and outside the editor/terminal/browser.
Several tools I tried claimed to offer free plans or something similar, but once I tried some of them, I encountered unusable or difficult-to-understand limitations. That's why I took the time to create, with MeDo's help, the Ahora IA -AI Now in Spanish- project, to share with others the tools I've tested and know work.
What it does
The goal of this project is to help users discover free AI agents, models, API gateways, and other tools that are actually usable. Furthermore, I use several of them daily, so I know firsthand that they work and I recommend them without hesitation.
Additionally, the platform includes a simple chatbot that helps guide users through the site using predefined responses based on keyword matching. This keeps the experience lightweight and accessible while still being helpful.
How I built it
I started creating the website with this prompt:
I want to create a web application so users can find out which FREE agents, models, and API gateways exist and can be used.
The web application must be a single page and comply with WCAG 2.2 Level AA standards.
Stack:
- React
- Vite
- Tailwind CSS
The application must have an option to change the language and must not collect sensitive information.
Then I reviewed the Requirement.md document to see if MeDo had generally understood what I wanted to do. From there, I iterated on the UI, functionalities, and database operations.
For the chatbot feature, I initially attempted to integrate a more advanced solution using Groq. However, I ran into issues first with API key integration and later with the responses generated by the selected model. Due to these challenges, I decided to implement a simpler and more reliable approach using keyword-based matching. This decision allowed me to maintain control over the experience while leaving room for future improvements.
Challenges I ran into
It was a little difficult at first to understand how MeDo works, as well as how and where the project's databases are located. Some friction was present in the early stages.
Another challenge was implementing the chatbot. My initial approach with Groq introduced friction both in setup and output quality, which led me to pivot toward a simpler solution.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Despite the initial challenges, I successfully built a functional and useful platform that shares curated AI tools that truly work. The friction decreased over time, and the project progressed more smoothly with each iteration.
Iām also proud of implementing a chatbot that, while simple, effectively assists users without adding unnecessary complexity.
Additionally, users can suggest new tools and contribute via pull requests to a GitHub repository, making the project collaborative and extensible.
What I learned
I learned that every tool, by its very nature, has limitations, and that includes AI. As the days and prompts went by, I better understood how to work with MeDo, reducing friction and improving development speed.
I also learned that sometimes a simpler solution is more effective, especially when building for reliability, accessibility, and user experience.
What's next for Ahora IA
Continue improving the platform by adding more tools, refining the user experience, and ensuring accessibility standards are consistently met.
In the future, the chatbot could evolve into a more advanced AI-powered assistant once integration challenges are resolved.
The goal is to keep it simple, useful, and trustworthy for anyone looking for free AI resources.
