2 of our group members are from the University of Waterloo, and we have a a Facebook group named "Free and For Sale". In this group, students post advertisements for things that they are trying to sell and hope that someone miraculously scrolls through the hundreds of posts to stumble upon theirs (kind of like kijiji).
We decided that this was extremely inefficient, and came up with the idea of a more user-friendly online classifieds which is primarily based on location of sale and price, rather than the time the advertisement was posted.
We managed to set up a database and basic but functional user interface using Ruby on Rails. Our user interface consists of a search bar which links to a Google Map, showing the results of the search entered into the search bar field.
We will continue to work on this project after this hackathon to make it prettier and more exciting.
