Fragments of Becoming

Inspiration

The idea came from the tension between creation and destruction, the beauty that emerges from chaos, and the fragmented nature of perception. We wanted to explore the space where digital glitches meet human emotion, inspired by Björk’s abstract soundscapes and Nietzsche’s philosophy of becoming.

What it does

Fragments of Becoming transforms granular and glitch-like textures into a sonic journey of collapse and rebirth. Each sound represents a fragment of a world falling apart and reassembling itself, blurring the line between organic and digital, noise and melody.

How we built it

We combined AI-generated granular sounds with glitch-inspired rhythms, layering abstract textures to simulate destruction and regeneration. The vocals and lyrics were crafted to echo the cyclical nature of decay and rebirth, guiding listeners through a fragmented yet cohesive sonic universe.

Challenges we ran into

Balancing chaos with coherence was the hardest part. Too much glitch made the piece feel incoherent, while too much order diluted the theme of destruction. We also experimented extensively to make the AI-generated textures feel emotionally resonant rather than purely mechanical.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We succeeded in creating an immersive soundscape where listeners can feel both the fragility and resilience of a world in flux. The integration of granular sound design, glitch aesthetics, and lyrical abstraction achieved a unique sonic identity that is both challenging and captivating.

What we learned

We learned that embracing imperfection—allowing sounds to “break” and “glitch”—can lead to unexpected beauty. AI can augment creativity, but the human touch in shaping emotion, rhythm, and narrative is irreplaceable.

What's next for Fragments of Becoming

We plan to expand this concept into a visual-album experience, exploring glitchy visuals, abstract motion graphics, and interactive AI-generated textures that respond to the music. Each fragment will continue to explore the boundary between destruction and rebirth, inviting listeners to inhabit a world constantly in flux.
