Inspiration
The idea was to explore how far generative AI could be pushed to create something cinematic.
Rather than telling a linear story, the goal was to assemble a trailer entirely from fragmented images and moments that don’t fully connect — yet still create atmosphere and tension.
What it does
Fragments is a 90-second surreal trailer.
It feels like a psychological thriller, but the narrative is broken into pieces: scattered visuals, eerie voiceover, and sound design that hint at meaning without ever resolving.
How we built it
We combined generated visuals, transformed them into motion, and layered sound and voice to create a cinematic flow.
The fragments were then stitched together in an edit, where pacing and rhythm became the main tools for storytelling.
Challenges we ran into
- Maintaining a consistent tone and style across different AI outputs
- Controlling glitches and distortions, while keeping the surreal quality intact
- Balancing mystery with clarity in the narration
Accomplishments that we're proud of
What began as a playful test turned into something that actually feels like a real trailer.
The piece manages to be unsettling, cinematic, and coherent despite being assembled from fragments that shouldn’t fit together.
What we learned
- AI is powerful for generating isolated moments, but struggles with continuity
- Editing is crucial — meaning emerges from how fragments are connected
- Mistakes and glitches often became the most interesting elements
What's next for Fragments
The project opened up new ideas for how AI can be used in experimental storytelling.
Next steps include testing longer narrative formats, refining continuity across scenes, and exploring how AI voice and sound can evolve alongside visuals.
