Inspiration
My inspiration is trying to prove what I can do. I have jumped around in a lot of areas, from programming, 3d art and many other things, and I realized that creating games utilizes all those skills. So my inspiration was trying to prove what I can do. As well as sense we move a lot and have kids, this allows me to work remote which is great!
What it does
Fractured (Free-For-All) is a highly competitive multiplayer game were you collect power ups and try to eliminate other players. We have randomly spawned Kitty Balloons, that spawn around the map, you need to shoot and collect the powerup that it drops. The map, has many different paths and levels, so you can come up with strategies to take out other players using a combination of powerups and locations.
How we built it
I used Horizon Worlds editor, blender, and affinity designer.
Challenges we ran into
I ran into some bugs like a projectiles shooting through players. After doing testing, it wasn't specific to my game, but was a meta bug. I spent some time making bug reports and recording to help solve this issue that effects many worlds, meta is currently working on it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am glad that I was able to push through the challenges of working on a game with so many features as a single creator. Sharing my progress through social media and seeing the project grow has motivated me to see how far I can get.
What we learned
Don't try to make everything perfect, art is never done, at some point you just have to stop on that feature and move to the next thing or it will never be finished.
Sense this is my first world, there is a large list of things I have learned, mostly focusing on Horizon Worlds way of doing things. Some more interesting things I learned was working with the community more. Some times I would help creators, helped write code for some and some creators have helped me like understanding how the events work. Bringing in players to try out my world and communicating with so many people.
What's next for Fractured (Free-For-All Updated!)
I plan to create a token based system that allows for collecting powerups/skills and being able to activate when the player chooses. I kind of want to use my random portion bounds to make certain parts of the map different, like lighting it on fire, or somethings unique, still need to think about it. Previous plan of having more maps and modes is still something planned, but I realized I need to flesh out some things first.
