Inspiration
Unreal Tournament 4 maps (FR_Fort, FR_Blackstone)
What it does
It's a multiplayer map for Unreal Tournament 4's blitz mode. It's currently work in progress.
How I built it
After playing some matches against the AIs in Unreal Tournament, I quickly fell in love with their blitz mode. I downloaded the Unreal Tournament Editor and started looking into existing blitz maps and their level design. Before I start with building my map, I made sure I knew the player metrics of this game. Fortunately for me, Unreal Tournament provides a metrics level with all the measurements for every doors and ramps. I studied all the assets and features provided in the Unreal Tournament Editor. I gave close attention to pickup placement, weapon placement, and level flow. I quickly came up with a theme for my level and got to work. After countless trials and error, I finished my first draft of the level.
Challenges I ran into
Learning the player metrics of a pre-existing game was new and challenging. I was initially quite tedious, but I was quickly able to get used to it.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I believe I did a fine job in player metrics. However, there's lots of rooms for improvement.
What I learned
Carefully tweaking every nooks and crannies for the best and smoothly traversable map.
What's next for FR_Crescendo
The development for this map is currently paused since I have lots on my plate right now. I really hope to return to developing for UT maps.
