Inspiration: Towards the purpose of the competition, we wanted to help improve the ecosystem in any way we could.
What it does: Our game involves a submarine character who goes underwater to collect plastic waste floating around and littering the ocean. There is a counter for how many plastics it collects per level, and after every level, the game's speed increases, and the number of plastics to collect increases.
How we built it: We used an endless runner template as a model to develop our game. Our game was programmed using the Flutter extension in Visual Studios Code.
Challenges we ran into: At first, we had an issue with getting the characters that will be used for the game, and we needed help with the movements mechanics of the submarine and how the player will be controlling the submarine. Integrating the Google Wallet API into the game.
Accomplishments that we're proud of: Getting experience in game development and learning a new language. We also produced our first game, which runs on several platforms thanks to Flutter.
What we learned: This project taught us a lot about the Flutter and Dart programming languages.
What's next for Plastic Diver: We hope to make the game more attractive to people and we intend to use this game to spread the message about not only plastic waste in the oceans but also other forms of pollutions that needs to be stopped.
