Inspiration
We wanted to create an affordable communication system that helps people with speech and motor disabilities communicate using only their eye movements.
What it does
It detects four eye gaze directions (Up, Down, Left, Right) to navigate menus, select phrases, and speak them aloud in multiple languages.
How we built it
We built the system using Python, OpenCV, Streamlit, Computer Vision, and Text-to-Speech technology.
Challenges we ran into
- Accurate gaze detection
- Different lighting conditions
- Real-time performance
- Multilingual support
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Built a working gaze-controlled communication system.
- Added multilingual and Text-to-Speech support.
- Created a low-cost solution using a standard webcam.
What we learned
We learned about computer vision, eye tracking, accessibility design, and teamwork.
What's next
We plan to improve gaze accuracy, add more languages, AI-based phrase prediction, emergency alerts, and a mobile version.
