Inspiration
Founders Forever was inspired by the observation that entrepreneurship is often taught through spreadsheets, lectures, and business plans rather than through lived experience. Most startup education tools focus on theory, while games about business tend to abstract away the human relationships, uncertainty, and strategic decision-making that define real startup journeys.
We wanted to create a world where players could experience the emotional highs and lows of building a company, learning how reputation, relationships, market validation, intellectual property, and strategic timing influence long-term success. By combining multiplayer gameplay, AI-driven NPCs, persistent progression, and startup simulation systems, Founders Forever transforms entrepreneurial learning into an immersive social experience.
What it does
Founders Forever is a multiplayer startup-building simulation where players begin as aspiring founders on a shared island ecosystem and grow into industry leaders through exploration, innovation, networking, and strategic decision-making.
Players:
- Explore the island to gather market insights and data nodes.
- Increase their Market Fit Score through real-world inspired discovery loops.
- Build relationships with AI-driven mentors, investors, operators, and founders.
- Choose from 15 different industry sectors and disruption pathways.
- Create ventures, develop prototypes, and launch products.
- Navigate a patent and intellectual property system that rewards innovation.
- Unlock capital, partnerships, and expansion opportunities.
- Earn reputation that persists across ventures and seasons.
- Compete on global leaderboards based on long-term impact rather than short-term wealth.
The world is populated by intelligent NPCs whose personalities, goals, and dialogue adapt dynamically to player behavior, reputation, role, and performance metrics.
How we built it
Founders Forever combines several technologies into a unified gameplay platform:
Horizon Worlds + TypeScript
The core multiplayer experience will be built in Horizon Worlds using TypeScript 2.0, allowing us to rapidly prototype social interactions, persistent systems, and real-time multiplayer experiences.
AI-Driven Character Systems
NPCs operate as adaptive mentors, investors, operators, and ecosystem participants. Each character maintains:
- Unique personality profiles
- Role-specific objectives
- Dynamic dialogue generation
- Player relationship tracking
- Reputation-aware responses
This creates conversations that feel personalized rather than scripted. An earlier version of this mechanic was proved out in a previous world to validate the core gameplay concept.
Progression Architecture
The game will be built around multiple interconnected progression systems:

Each system influences the others, creating emergent strategic choices.
UX and Interface Design
A custom HUD architecture was developed to visualize complex entrepreneurial concepts through intuitive game mechanics:

Challenges we ran into
Making Entrepreneurship Fun
One of the biggest challenges was translating abstract startup concepts into engaging gameplay. Concepts like market validation, patents, investor relations, and reputation systems can easily become spreadsheet simulations.
We had to redesign these concepts into exploration, discovery, social interaction, and progression mechanics that feel rewarding and intuitive.
Balancing Education and Entertainment
Too much realism risks overwhelming players with complexity. Too much simplification removes the educational value.
Finding the balance between authentic entrepreneurial concepts and enjoyable gameplay required multiple iterations.
Designing Dynamic NPC Relationships
Creating AI characters that feel consistent, memorable, and adaptive is difficult. NPCs needed to react differently based on player decisions while maintaining coherent personalities and long-term relationship histories.
Long-Term Motivation
Traditional business simulations often end once a company becomes successful. We needed a persistent meta-game that encourages continued engagement across multiple ventures and seasons.
This led to the reputation-first progression model.

Ideating on Founders Forever taught us that entrepreneurship can be fun and channeled into an interesting concept for a social game.
