If You Run a Hotel, This is Worth Looking Into
Inspiration
Hotels and restaurants often rely on delayed reviews to understand guest experiences. By the time feedback shows up online, the opportunity to fix issues has already passed. At the same time, the shift to cashless payments has made tipping less consistent, directly impacting staff earnings. Socle was built to solve both problems in real time.
What it does
Socle is a real-time guest experience system for hospitality businesses. It allows guests to instantly share feedback and leave digital tips through a simple QR-based flow. Managers receive structured, real-time insights so they can quickly identify issues, improve service, and respond while the experience is still happening.
How we built it
We built Socle as a lightweight web-based system focused on simplicity and speed. The experience is accessed through QR codes, leading guests to a clean feedback and tipping interface. On the backend side, we structured the data flow to immediately surface guest responses in a way that staff can quickly interpret and act on.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was designing something that works in real hospitality environments without adding friction. We had to balance simplicity for guests with usefulness for staff, while making sure the system didn’t feel like extra work for either side.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We successfully built a unified system that combines guest feedback and tipping into one seamless flow. We also created a working early prototype that demonstrates how real-time hospitality insights can replace delayed review cycles.
What we learned
We learned that timing is more valuable than volume when it comes to feedback. Real-time signals change how teams operate. We also learned that hospitality tools only succeed if they reduce friction, not add to it.
What's next for Socle
We’re currently onboarding early restaurants and hotels for real-world testing. Next, we’re improving how feedback is prioritized into actionable insights for staff and expanding the system into a lightweight hospitality performance layer that connects guest experience, staff recognition, and operational decision-making.
Major Updates & Changes Made to Socle
Socle started as a simple QR tipping tool called “Tipster,” focused mainly on helping hospitality staff receive more digital tips. Over time, we completely evolved both the brand and the product direction.
We rebranded to “socle” to create a more premium, scalable identity that feels like a real hospitality infrastructure platform instead of a single-feature utility.
The product expanded from just tipping into a real-time guest experience and hospitality performance system. We added guest feedback, employee recognition, operational analytics, shift insights, performance tracking, and manager dashboards.
We also improved the hardware concept from static QR plaques to a rotational QR dock system that allows hotels and restaurants to easily switch employee assignments during shifts.
Our strategy changed too. Instead of rushing into complex NFC hardware immediately, we shifted to a QR-first MVP approach to validate demand faster and simplify deployment.
On the business side, we moved from an employee-focused tool to a manager-focused operational platform. We also evolved our growth strategy from basic outreach into content-driven marketing with teaser campaigns, cinematic ads, and public startup building.
Overall, Socle evolved from a simple digital tipping idea into a modern hospitality intelligence platform designed to improve guest experience, staff recognition, and operational visibility in real time.
