Inspiration

We realized that many of the most talented international founders in the US are not blocked by ideas, funding, or technical ability — they’re blocked by immigration uncertainty.

Founders spend years building startups, open-source projects, communities, and public reputations, yet most immigration workflows are still fragmented, reactive, and lawyer-driven.

There is no system that helps founders strategically build immigration credibility over time.

We wanted to build an AI-native platform that treats immigration not just as paperwork, but as a long-term identity and reputation problem.

That became FounderOS.

What it does

FounderOS is a personalized command center for founder-immigrants:

-Onboarding captures the founder's identity (visa status, nationality, startup stage, fundraising plans). -Visa Strategy recommends realistic paths (F1→OPT→O1, H1B→O1, O1→EB1A) based on profile. -Timeline lays out a milestone-based action plan and flags exactly where an attorney needs to step in. -Company & Tax (AI) recommends entity structure (DE C-Corp vs. LLC) and tax planning based on visa + funding status. -Attorney Marketplace — a vetted partner library where founders can one-click generate a pre-filled intake email, package their documents, contact the right attorney, and track engagement progress inside the platform.

How we built it

We built FounderOS using:

Frontend: React 19 + TanStack Start v1 (SSR + file-based routing), Vite 7, Tailwind v4, shadcn/ui, framer-motion. State: A centralized ProfileProvider (React Context + localStorage) that makes the founder profile the single source of truth driving every module. Backend: Lovable Cloud (managed Postgres + Auth + serverless functions) for persistence, attorney directory, and engagement tracking. AI layer: Lovable AI Gateway powers the formation & tax recommendations. Design system: Semantic OKLCH tokens in styles.css for a consistent, themeable look across both desktop and mobile (with a hamburger drawer for small screens).

Challenges we ran into

Modeling real immigration logic without oversimplifying — visa eligibility, dual-intent issues, and entity choice interact in non-obvious ways. Keeping every module in sync with the founder profile — solved by refactoring to a single Context store instead of prop-drilling. Mobile navigation — the dashboard has many sections (Timeline, Formation, Attorneys), so we built a sticky top bar + drawer to keep everything reachable on a 643px viewport. Responsibly scoping AI output — making it directional guidance, not legal advice, with clear handoffs to human attorneys.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that FounderOS reframes immigration as a founder infrastructure problem instead of just a legal filing problem.

Some things we’re especially proud of:

  • Building a founder-specific immigration workflow instead of a generic immigration tool
  • Creating an AI-powered immigration gap analysis system
  • Designing a long-term “immigration moat” framework
  • Turning founder achievements into structured immigration signals
  • Creating a calmer and more strategic user experience around a highly stressful process

We’re also proud of how quickly we were able to move from concept to working prototype.

What we learned

We learned that immigration planning for founders is deeply underserved.

Most founders are already building the exact kinds of signals that matter for immigration — media, OSS, leadership, speaking, community building — but they are not tracking or packaging them strategically.

We also learned that immigration is fundamentally tied to reputation and narrative, not just forms.

Another key insight:

The future of immigration tooling is not just automation.

It’s identity infrastructure.

What's next for FounderOS

Next, we want to expand FounderOS into a full identity operating system for global founders.

Future directions include:

-Document vault + auto-generated petition packets (O1/EB1A evidence binders). -Live attorney calendar booking and milestone-based escrow payments. -RFE/Denial response playbooks. -Expansion to UK, Canada, UAE, and Singapore founder visas. -Community layer: anonymized success-pattern data ("founders like you who got O1 did X").

Long term, we envision FounderOS becoming the default infrastructure layer helping global founders navigate immigration while building the next generation of startups.
