FounderScope: How We Built a Market Research Copilot in a Day

Inspiration

My friends and I were brainstorming startup ideas, and we kept running into the same problem:
We could build a product — but we couldn’t find product-market fit.

Why?
Because we didn’t know how to validate our ideas with real market data.

We realized one of the most powerful ways to validate a startup concept is to identify a real gap in the market.
If a competitor isn’t filling it, and you can — that’s opportunity. That’s traction.

So we asked ourselves:

What if you could drop your startup idea into a tool… and instantly see whether there’s room for it in the market?

That became the inspiration behind FounderScope.

What It Does

FounderScope is your market research copilot.

  • You enter your startup idea.
  • We crawl real competitor sites using APIs like Bright Data and Tavily.
  • We extract real-time data: pricing, features, positioning.
  • We analyze overlaps, gaps, and strengths.
  • Then we generate a clear market gap insight — whether your idea has a niche or not.

While tools like ChatGPT and Gemini can brainstorm, they often hallucinate or give generic data.
FounderScope gives you actual market intelligence.

How We Built It

  • Data Crawling: Used Bright Data Search and Tavily Crawl to query and pull real websites.
  • Backend: Node + Python services for crawling and AI analysis.
  • Frontend: React + Tailwind with a focus on clean UX.
  • Output: A competitor matrix, opportunity score, and AI-generated build recommendations.

Challenges

One of our biggest headaches was frontend-backend integration.

We ran into a persistent CORS error — but after hours of debugging, we discovered it was actually a runtime error disguised as CORS. That bug cost us a lot of time and frustration.

What We’re Proud Of

  • We got our core MVP fully working:
    • Real-time crawling
    • Competitor breakdowns
    • Risk analysis scoring
    • Final AI summary of market opportunity

In 6 hours, we went from idea to working prototype — with real insight delivered to users.

What We Learned

  • You can get so much done in 6 hours if you shut off distractions and stay focused.
  • MVP = build just enough to prove the core value.
  • The power of real data is greater than assumed data.
