What it does
I spent $1,000 on AWS without meaning to.
I was building a project, and nothing stopped my usage when it passed what I meant to spend. There was no warning and no hard limit, so I only found out when the bill arrived. AWS thankfully refunded it, but it showed me how easy it is to overspend when the guardrails are off by default. We NEED development tools that can prevent us from spending money we don't have.
Then, an update broke my passion project overnight.
I was building a React app with Expo, and when Expo moved to version 58, my app broke even though I hadn’t changed anything. This caused me to needlessly spend many hours trying to work out what broke instead of building. App developers like me who develop apps made on changing architectures are often caught blind when their software updates. We NEED development tools that let us know when something breaking isn't our fault.
Legacy software has the opposite problem: it’s too old. The world still runs on systems built decades ago that few people understand anymore. While researching this issue, I learned that medicare alone made $28.8 billion in improper payments last year through claims systems built on old code. Large organizations pay consultants to keep systems like that alive, though they shouldn't have to, and small businesses and clinics can’t afford such tools. They NEED affordable options.
Talking with the 8090 team raised one more question: “Why not just use one prompt in Claude Code?” Sure, prompting can fix bugs. However, it won't give you a team that maintains your software week after week, checks its own work, and stays within the budget you set, all autonomously. We NEED to stop wasting prompts in our preferred AI tools when other tools can integrate with our AIs and offer that functionality for less.
I built Foundation to provide solutions for all four of the mentioned problems: the upkeep for old systems, the upkeep for new apps after launch, the spending limits that are on from the start, and sub-agentic optimized workflows. This is Foundation.
One tool, four solutions. Doesn't age, break, lose money, or SLOP.
